Hastelloy C-276(UNS N10276), which has a high nickel content, is immune to stress corrosion caused by chloride. The high content of molybdenum and chromium allows the alloy to work in oxidizing, non-oxidizing, and mixed acidic environments, making it resistant to corrosion and cracking attacks. The addition of tungsten prevents the formation of pores. Finally, C276 is suitable for outdoor use where cracking resistance due to hydrogen-sulfide stress corrosion is a must.

Corrosion Resistance:
Hastelloy C-276 is a tungsten-containing nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with an extremely low silicon-carbon content and is considered to be the universal corrosion-resistant alloy. The alloy has the following properties:
(1) Excellent corrosion resistance to most corrosive media in both oxidising and reducing atmospheres.
(2) Excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion. The higher molybdenum and chromium content enables the alloy to resist chloride ion corrosion, and the tungsten element further improves corrosion resistance. At the same time, alloy C-276 is one of only a few materials that are resistant to corrosion by moist chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solutions, and has significant corrosion resistance to high concentrations of chloride salt solutions such as ferric chloride and copper chloride. Suitable for all concentrations of sulphuric acid solutions, it is one of the few materials that can be used in hot concentrated sulphuric acid solutions.
